The aim of The Myton Hospices is to enhance quality of life in whatever way possible and acceptable to the patient; to support both patient and family at all times; and if death does occur, to ensure it is peaceful and with dignity.
The Myton Hospices offers a counselling service to patients, their family and friends.
The Service is co-ordinated by a qualified counsellor. It also has full organisational membership of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and abides by its Code of Ethics.
Children who have suffered a bereavement are cared for by specialist counsellors through Rainbow Ripples, and we also run a support group called the Cedars Group which meets regularly at the hospice.

Dealing with loss and illness raises many emotions and can be very disruptive to our lives and our relationships. It can be difficult to work through the feelings we have for lots of different reasons.
Counselling provides an opportunity to talk in confidence to someone who is not directly involved in your situation but who cares.
Sharing your worries and fears can make you feel less overwhelmed by them and less alone. It can also help to make you feel more in control even though there will be some things that you cannot change.
The Service uses volunteers who are currently at, or above Diploma level in counselling. All volunteers are regularly supervised in accordance with BACP regulations.
All the counsellors have to complete additional training within the Hospice, which is accredited with the Open College Network. They also have on-going training to maintain personal and professional development.
If you are an in-patient: A counsellor can see you on the ward or in one of the designated counselling rooms within the Hospice.
If you are a Day Care patient: You can be seen by a counsellor privately at the Day Hospice, in a counselling room in the main Hospice or at home
If you are a friend or relative of a patient: You can ask for an appointment at home or at the Hospice.
You may only wish to have one session or you may want to be seen on an on-going basis. The counsellor will look at this with you when he/she first meets you.
There is a limited availability of counsellors but if you wish to be seen by a counsellor of a specific gender or by a counsellor who is of the same or similar ethnicity as you, then we will endeavour to meet this request.
This service is also available to children through Rainbow Ripples
