Myton staff take on the Coventry Half Marathon

Our Events and Community Fundraising Manager, Sarah Stallard, is running the Coventry Half Marathon with our Lottery Manager, Chris Godber, and Retail Manager, Gary Bradbury, we asked her to introduce the team and talk us through their training.

This year I decided to take on a new challenge and run the Coventry Half Marathon in aid of The Myton Hospices.

As the Events and Community Fundraising Manager at Myton I enjoy fundraising and taking part in our events however I have only ever run 10km so this is a huge challenge for me! Last year we launched our Health and Wellbeing week at Myton and every Thursday morning a small group of us go running before work, meeting at our Coventry Hospice.

Gary, our Retail Manager is a very experienced runner who has been running for over 30 years and Chris, our Lottery Manager is also a keen runner who took part in the half marathon last year and has now got the running bug.

We are all at various levels of fitness and yet the support we give each other is what encouraged me to sign up. We are all truly passionate about Myton and are always looking at ways we can fundraise. Gary took part in our Vietnam and Cambodia Cycle Challenge last year and raised over £5,000 which was an amazing achievement.

I went on my longest ever training run last Sunday and managed 7.5 miles non-stop.

I was so pleased with myself and it made me realise I can do this and I actually enjoy running! I’ve only been training properly for two weeks and knowing that my fundraising is going to help people less fortunate than me is what has helped me get out the door and run. It sounds cheesy but I feel privileged that I am able to put one foot in front of the other. I’ve had good days and bad days but I know that whatever happens on the day I will finish the course. I volunteered last year as part of a cheer squad along the route and I know that this year’s volunteers will be spurring me on!

I’d encourage anyone to take part as there’s still time to train and I’ve been surprised at how quickly my fitness has improved! I attend the park run every week and hope to meet lots more Myton runners there before race day. Places are FREE and we will give you fundraising support as well as training tips so come and join us and be part of Team Myton!

If you wish to sponsor us no matter the amount it would be appreciated so much and help keep all of Myton's services free of charge. You can do so by clicking here
