Counselling - Myton Hospice

The Myton Hospices offers a counselling service to patients, their family and friends.

The Service is co-ordinated by qualified counsellors. It also has full organisational membership of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and abides by its Ethical Framework.

Children who have suffered a bereavement are cared for by specialist counsellors through Rainbow Ripples, and we also run a support group called the The Reflections Group which meets regularly at the hospice.

How counselling can help

Counselling

Dealing with loss and illness raises many emotions and can be very disruptive to our lives and our relationships. It can be difficult to work through the feelings we have for lots of different reasons.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk in confidence to someone who is not directly involved in your situation but who cares.

Counselling at Myton is:

  • Non judgemental
  • Confidential
  • Given with unconditional positive regard for the client

How does the counselling service work?

The Service uses volunteers who are currently at, or above Diploma level in counselling. All volunteers are regularly supervised in accordance with BACP regulations.

All the counsellors have to complete additional training within the Hospice, which is accredited with the Open College Network. They also have on-going training to maintain personal and professional development.
