Volunteering

Volunteering

Our volunteers are a highly respected and valuable part of the Hospice team, whether they work directly with patients in the in-patient unit or in the day hospices, or in one of our shops. Most of our Volunteers work one half-day shift a week but some do more and some do less. Call Elaine Tubbs on 01926 492518 for information on volunteering.

Volunteering Help

In the hospice duties vary from making and serving teas, arranging flowers, and taking round the library trolley. Volunteers are encouraged to work with the Diversional Therapist by helping with various arts and crafts, but even if you are not ‘arty’ there is always something you can do - just sitting chatting to patients is sometimes enough.

Volunteer drivers bring patients to and from the Day Hospices or, in exceptional circumstances, are on call to collect relatives who would otherwise be unable to visit our in-patients. Drivers use their own vehicles and are paid a mileage allowance.

Volunteering Help

Shop volunteers - no previous shop experience is necessary to volunteer in one of our 11 shops or warehouse. While some of our shop volunteers enjoy serving customers and using the till, others prefer to work behind the scenes sorting and pricing the clothes and other donated items, or steaming garments before they go on sale. Each shop has a full-time manager and most volunteers work for one or two half-day shifts a week.
