Warwick Myton Hospice temporarily closes for important electrical work

We are sad to announce that we will be temporarily closing our site on Myton Lane in Warwick whilst mandatory electrical works are carried out. The hospice will close as of Friday 19th August and will reopen two weeks later once the work is safely completed.

A recent electrical inspection at Warwick Myton Hospice has highlighted that whilst our current system is safe, it is very old and if anything should go wrong the parts required for repair may well be obsolete. With a view to the future and the on-going security and safety of patients, families, staff, volunteers and indeed anyone at our site at Warwick, we feel it prudent to replace the current system before any problems occur.

As an organisation our vision is that everyone who needs our support should be able to access it and over the past 12 months we have worked tirelessly to broaden our reach. The decision to temporarily close our site, therefore, was not taken lightly but with the safety of patients, their loved ones, our staff and volunteers being our greatest concern; it really was the only option available to us. Keeping disruption to a minimum for patients is paramount and we have given a lot of thought to how we will be able to minimise the impact of the closure.

Measures to be taken during the period of closure will include temporarily opening 3 extra beds in Coventry Myton and ensuring that the allocation of the existing 16 beds at Coventry will be prioritised based on patient need rather than location. In addition our Myton at Home service will be bolstered by redeploying some of the Warwick Myton nursing team; this means that, where appropriate, we can take our services out to patients during the period that they can’t come in to us.

We understand that this unfortunate brief closure could cause our patients and loved ones concern but our team is devoted to ensuring that patients who are already with us are discharged appropriately and supported throughout this period. We would like to stress that the closure is only temporary and our services will continue as usual once we open again on Monday 5th September.
