Palliative and End of Life Care Workshop for Health Care Assistants

The Palliative and End of Life Care Workshop is for Health Care Assistants working in health or social care that focuses on caring holistically for palliative and end-of-life patients.

The content of the workshop will include:

  • Delivering holistic, person-centred care at end-of-life.
  • The importance of promoting dignity and how this can be achieved.
  • Communication skills, such as how to respond to difficult questions from patients, families and their carers
  • Recognising when a patient is deteriorating.
  • The role of the healthcare assistant in recognising and alleviating symptoms in a palliative or end-of-life patient.
  • The importance of evidence based, high quality, oral care – practical skill-based session.
  • Skin care and the management of pressure ulcers and moisture damage through a palliative approach.
  • The importance of self-care and reflective practice.
