In memory of Roy Albert Cooper

Roy Albert Cooper was born on June 21, 1925 to Elsie & Albert Cooper in Barking, Essex. He joined the army in WWII serving as a member of the 79th Armoured Division. After the war he was deployed to Germany. Two years later Roy began working for Price Forbes Ltd in the City as an insurance broker, a position he was to hold for nearly 40 years.

An avid tennis player, he met his future wife Barbara on the tennis courts in Barking Park. Partners on the tennis court, they became partners in life on May 3rd, 1952.

They raised three sons, Peter, Barry & Andrew at their home in Barkingside, and sport was a major part of all of their lives. The majority of their life-long friends were other members of the tennis clubs Roy & Barbara belonged to over the years.

Roy retired in 1987 and he and Barbara travelled around the world visiting America, Australia & New Zealand as well as enjoying several Mediterranean cruises. Between trips they enjoyed visiting their 8 grandchildren, providing excellent baby-sitting services.

After giving up tennis they turned their attention to lawn bowling and enjoyed similar success on the rinks as previously on the courts.

When Andy moved to Orlando in 2001 they left their home of 50 years and moved to Kenilworth. They continued to play bowls and bridge as they enjoyed their new life in the Warwickshire countryside

Diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2012, Roy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 7th, 2013

Roy & Barbara have always admired the work carried out by Myton Hospice. They have made regular donations for many years to the Hospice and it is fitting that friends & family can make their own donations in his name.
