If 2020 has taught us anything, it was that this pandemic is most certainly a marathon and not a sprint. Could you go the distance and run 26.2 miles during the month of March to support The Myton Hospices?

We are encouraging you to be a part of #TeamMyton this March, pull on your running shoes and take on a marathon while raising vital funds for The Myton Hospices. What better way to get out for your daily exercise during lockdown?

  • The Myton Hospices - June's Story Header - Myton Marathon 2021

We want to raise £1,500 from this virtual event so we can continue to support people like June Bernicoff and her daughters Helen and Julie:

June Bernicoff was known to people across the country as one half of the infamous partnership, June and Leon of Gogglebox, but to Helen and Julie they were simply Mum and Dad.

The couple appeared in the popular TV series from its beginning in 2013 and were firm favourites with viewers until they left the show in 2017. Helen still finds it unreal to think of her parents as television personalities, but knows how much joy it brought them both.

June was the linchpin of the family and always there for them, encouraging, supportive and with a loving, sensitive and common sense approach to life.

She moved to Warwickshire in October 2019 to be nearer her daughter after her husband Leon died, but began to suffer with back pain around Christmas. She was eventually admitted to hospital in April with swelling in her stomach which resulted in her being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

    Helen said:
“It was a very rapid decline after her short hospital stay. She moved in with me so I could care for her, the doctor telephoned weekly and the palliative care nurse got involved too. I was thankful to have her at home but it all became a lot easier when Myton got involved.”

“We both looked forward to the Myton at Home nurses’ daily visits. It was the little things they did which really made a big difference, like washing her hair, making her comfortable, and keeping the pain under control. They showed us how to move and turn her in bed without causing discomfort, and they were also honest about her deterioration. We also very much appreciated their warmth and kindness”

The Myton at Home team arranged for a wheelchair to be loaned to June so she could get to see the garden. And when it was clear that she didn’t have long left, the nurses were informed, open and honest with the family. This meant June’s granddaughter was able to travel to see her one last time.

“The daily contact with the nurses was so important to us all. Mum was positive throughout the illness, and we followed her lead. The care Myton gave was very much for our whole family, and they even checked in with me after she died to see how I was doing.”

June died on the 5th May 2020 at home with Helen. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the Myton at Home nurses were able to be there for June and her family during her final weeks.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak we have enhanced our Myton at Home service so that more people can die in their preferred place of death, with their loved ones supported. Every penny you raise in sponsorship really will make a big difference.
  • To reach our target we rely entirely on you raising sponsorship!

    Online Fundraising

Setting up a JustGiving fundraising page is one of the most effective and easy ways of encouraging families, friends and colleagues to sponsor you. By setting up a JustGiving page, you can share your fundraising page via email and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as often as you want to.

Having an online fundraising page also means you do not have to physically collect money after the event, plus Gift Aid is automatically calculated and processed.

If you haven't already why not set up your online fundraising page through JustGiving with just a few simple clicks. Find out how to set up a JustGiving page by clicking here.

Will you make it onto our Wall of Fame? Keep an eye out to see if you are one of our top fundraisers!

Every participant that raises over £75 will receive a Myton branded water bottle. Don’t stop there though! The top fundraiser from this challenge will win a FITBIT!

If you are NOT using JustGiving to raise your sponsorship then please get in touch with so we know you should be receiving a water bottle.

    Facebook Fundraising

Please let us know, by emailing the Events Team, if you set up a Fundraiser on Facebook; we receive limited information from Facebook which makes it extremely hard for us to link the donation to your fundraising otherwise.

    Match Funding

These are two words charities love to hear! Many employers offer match funding which means they will match what you have raised (to a certain amount), potentially doubling what you raise for Myton! Why not speak to your employer to find out if this is something they will do?

    Gift Aid

UK taxpayers can raise an additional 25% through Gift Aid at no extra cost to themselves. To ensure we can claim Gift Aid we need the full name, home address and postcode of your sponsors – and of course, don’t forget to tick the Gift Aid box!
