  • Summary:

Determined to ensure ‘the show must go on’ our Virtual Walk for Myton is back for 2021. We held our first ever Virtual Walk, in the height of the Coronavirus pandemic last year...

  • The Myton Hospices - VIrtual Walk for Myton 2021 - Mid Page Banner

Every May, here at The Myton Hospices, we are joined by hundreds of supporters who have signed up to our fabulous Walk for Myton event and who have opted to take on one of our three specially selected routes while raising money for Myton, often in memory of a loved one.

Coronavirus restrictions meant this wasn’t possible last year, but, knowing, how much our supporters love taking part in this flagship Myton event, we resolved that ‘the show must go on’ and turned it into our Virtual Walk for Myton – and we're doing the same this year!

Ongoing restrictions mean we are still not in the position to invite you, our dedicated fundraisers and supporters, to spend time with us at the hospice before and after your walk as we have in previous years but we are hopeful that come Sunday 9th May we will be able to welcome you in some capacity – keep your eyes peeled for our updates.

So, instead we are asking you to take on your Walk for Myton from your house or a nearby location in safe bubbles or groups, while still raising the same amazing money for Myton.

This is a great opportunity for you to get out for your daily exercise, remember a loved one, and enjoy some quality time alone or with your friends and family.
Please remember to ensure you are following all government guidance when taking part.

We have shared our usual routes with you as a guide, please do bear in mind these routes were last used in 2019 and may vary.

However, we are suggesting that you decide your own route starting from your own front door!  Please note these routes are slightly different to previous years to ensure we have met the required distances.

Now, more than ever, we need your help to raise vital funds so we can continue to support those who need us, now and in the future.

With millions to raise this year in order to continue providing our services free of charge, every penny you can raise in sponsorship or donate makes a massive difference!

You can rarely scroll through your Facebook newsfeed without seeing at least one fundraising page and that is because it is one of the most effective, easiest ways of encouraging families, friends and colleagues to sponsor you.

By setting up a JustGiving page, you can share your fundraising page on social media as little or as often as you want to. Having an online fundraising page also means you do not have to physically collect money after the event, plus Gift Aid is automatically calculated and processed.

If you haven't already why not set up your online fundraising page through JustGiving with just a few simple clicks.

Please let us know, by emailing the Events Team on events@mytonhospice.org, if you set up a Fundraiser on Facebook; we receive limited information from Facebook which makes it extremely hard for us to link the donation to your fundraising otherwise.
  • This year we need to raise vital funds so we can be there for more people like Brian Edden and his family:

Brian Edden, aged 73, received end of life care at Warwick Myton Hospice. Brian had cirrhosis of the liver and was cared for at the Hospice since his admission before Christmas until he sadly died at the end of January 2021.

The day after the UK went into lockdown 3.0 Brian showed us some of the beautiful artwork he had displayed in his room at Myton and explained that his intention was to ‘cheer people up and bring people together’.

When asked about his time at Myton Brian said it was
It is a very good place to be, I have been looked after exceptionally well and would personally recommend Myton to anyone who needs it. There are beautiful grounds and gardens, it is spotlessly clean, with good food and wonderful staff. It is lovely here, and whilst I am here for end of life care it can be the beginning of life too, it’s my home now.

During his time at Myton Brian continued to paint and spent many happy hours showing long-term family friend Sunita how to work with watercolours.

    Brian’s daughter Nicky said:

Myton is not just for patients but for families too. We slept in the wonderful family accommodation right next to the ward for a number of nights and every morning a nurse creeps in with a cup of tea for when I wake up. The nurses are angels and we’ve had lots of laughs and jokes with them too.

To reach our target of £10,000 we rely on people raising sponsorship.

To inspire you on your fundraising journey, please take a look at the difference this money will make:

    • £50 covers the cost of two hours of specialist nursing care

    • £175 is the upkeep cost of our relatives' accommodation for a week

    • £460 will fund an inpatient bed for one day

    • £2,000 would buy a patient specific recliner chair to enable patients to spend time out of bed
