Statement regarding cyber security incident affecting Beacon CRM

The Myton Hospices recently started working with industry leading Beacon CRM, to implement a new system for managing supporter information and donation records as part of our plan to enhance our engagement with donors and supporters. We have been informed by Beacon CRM of a cyber security incident involving unauthorised access to systems containing data it processes on behalf of its customers.

Beacon is investigating this as a matter of urgency, but the evidence currently suggests that copies of database back-ups were accessed and are likely to have been downloaded by an unauthorised third party. We are continuing to work closely with Beacon CRM to understand the full extent of the incident and to ensure appropriate measures are being taken to protect the information held within its systems.

As a result, some information relating to our supporters may have been affected. This may include names, postal addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers and donation records. Importantly, this system does not hold sensitive patient information, payment card details or bank account information.

As soon as we were made aware of the incident, we took immediate steps to assess the potential impact and have reported the matter to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the Fundraising Regulator and Charity Commission.

At this stage, there is no action supporters need to take. However, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant for any unexpected emails, phone calls, text messages or other communications claiming to be from The Myton Hospices or Beacon CRM.

We understand that this news may be concerning and sincerely apologise for any worry or inconvenience it may cause. Protecting the information entrusted to us is extremely important, and we take our responsibilities for safeguarding personal data very seriously.

We are committed to keeping our supporters informed and will provide further updates if additional information becomes available. We have paused our implementation project with Beacon but our priority at this time is to minimise the risk to our supporters
