The Warwickshire Golf Club has raised over £14,000 for The Myton Hospices as its Charity of the Year

The Warwickshire Golf Club has raised over £14,000 for The Myton Hospices after selecting us as its Charity of the Year for 2024/25, hosting a wide range of fundraising activities throughout the year.

Alison Turner, Ladies Captain for the 2024/25 season, explained why Myton was chosen:

Alongside the Seniors Captain, Leo Hayes, and Men’s Captain, Chris Laird, we choose a charity to support each year. I had recently seen Myton’s Urgent Appeal and knew supporting a local cause like Myton would be a great idea. Myton is a very personal charity – lots of people know someone who has had their support, so there are many connections. We had a member whose husband was recently cared for by Myton, so it is a cause that’s very close to all of us.

Throughout the year, members took part in a busy calendar of fundraising events, including fashion shows, dinners, book clubs, and seasonal raffles for Easter, Halloween and Christmas. Golf-based activities also proved popular, with Golf Days featuring longest drive competitions and “guess the drive of the captain” challenges.

Alison continued:

We all had a lot of fun with the fundraising. The fashion show is probably the biggest event we do, with members donating their barely worn clothing and accessories for us to model and sell. A lot of organisation goes into it, so we were delighted it raised so much money. We also had a member turn up to play a round of golf dressed as a nurse, which everyone happily sponsored him for!

The total raised, £14,165.61, could fund a hospice bed at Myton for a month, helping to provide vital care and support for patients and their families.

Alison added:

It’s nice to support Myton, knowing it’s benefiting people in the community and understanding exactly where the money is going and how it helps. There’s always someone who’s had Myton’s support, so to be part of that is really special.

Louise Careless, Community Fundraiser at The Myton Hospices, said:

We are incredibly grateful to The Warwickshire Golf Club for their wonderful support during their time as our Charity of the Year. Their commitment to fundraising and supporting local causes has been amazing, and we are honoured to have been part of that. We rely on the support of our community to ensure people can access the care and support they need, and we couldn’t do this without organisations like The Warwickshire Golf Club. Thank you to everyone involved for your incredible support.

Did you know…? It costs over £15 million every year to provide our services free of charge to our patients and their loved ones. As a charity, with less than 20% of our funding coming from the NHS, we must raise more than £12 million this year. Support from local organisations like The Warwickshire Golf Club is vital in ensuring we can be there for more people when they need us most, now and in the future.
