Patients and their families at Coventry Myton Hospice enjoyed an afternoon of summer fun when staff brought a little bit of the seaside to the hospice.
The beach day was organised by our fabulous nurses and nursing assistants, giving patients, families, staff and volunteers the chance to spend an afternoon together, enjoy the sunshine and take part in a range of activities.
The hospice garden was transformed into a mini beach, complete with sand pits and paddling pools for the children, as well as pebble painting, ‘net a duck’ and garden games. Each child also received a goodie bag to take home.
There was plenty going on for the adults too, with drinks and refreshments including an ice cream van and a selection of cakes made by our very own Cheryl Bell, a raffle and entertainment.
Money raised through the raffle was used to buy a new tea and coffee pot, new mugs and two tea sets for the hospice, as well as toiletries for our patients. A huge thank you to everyone who took part!
Live music was provided by singer Sam, while two ponies also made a special visit to the hospice, giving patients and families the opportunity to meet them.
One of the afternoon’s highlights came when a Myton patient took over the music, playing their own CDs while Sam took a break.

We wanted to put on something a bit different for our patients and their families and make the most of the summer weather. A trip to the beach isn’t always possible, so we decided to bring the beach to Myton instead.
We know how important it is for our patients to have opportunities to spend time with the people they love and make lasting memories together, so days like this are a great way for us to support that. It was great to see so many people getting involved and enjoying the afternoon. There was something for everyone, and the patient DJing was a particular highlight!
The event was made possible with the help of staff, volunteers and local supporters – a big thank you to all of you.
The team at Coventry Myton Hospice is already looking forward to finding more fun ways to bring patients and families together throughout the year.
