At The Myton Hospices, our volunteers play a vital role in helping us continue providing specialist hospice care across Coventry and Warwickshire. From supporting in our shops to helping at events, every role makes a difference – and one of the simplest, most flexible ways to get involved is by becoming a Collection Box Volunteer.
We’re currently looking for volunteers to help manage our collection boxes in local businesses and venues across the region. It’s a role that fits easily around everyday life and offers a practical way to support Myton, without a big time commitment.
Collection Box Volunteers are responsible for visiting a small number of local collection box locations, emptying the boxes when needed, and returning the donations to Myton. Most boxes only need to be emptied every three to six months, making this a low-commitment role compared to many other volunteering opportunities.
There is no minimum time commitment, and volunteers can choose a schedule that works for them. Some prefer to complete all their collections in one session every few months, while others spread visits out over shorter, more regular periods. Whether you have a few spare hours a month or can dedicate a longer block of time less often, the role can be adapted to suit you.
We also aim to keep collection routes as local as possible. For many volunteers, this means managing boxes close to home, and in some cases entirely on foot. This makes it a convenient option for people who want to support Myton within their own community, without needing to travel far.
The role can also work well for people who receive corporate volunteering time through their employer, offering a straightforward and flexible way to use that time to support a local charity.

I was already volunteering with Myton when I started collecting the fundraising boxes several years ago, and it's a role that has fitted in really well alongside my other volunteering.
I enjoy volunteering because I get to meet lots of interesting people, and it's a great way to keep busy in retirement. Although individual collections can sometimes be small, every donation adds up, and together they make an important contribution to supporting Myton's services.
I also think the collection boxes help keep Myton's name visible in local communities, reminding people about the charity and encouraging them to support the work it does across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Collecting the fundraising boxes was my first volunteering role, not only with Myton but in volunteering generally. It gave me a welcome introduction to volunteering following my retirement 11 years ago, and I’ve continued volunteering with Myton ever since in a variety of different roles.
I know the local Warwick area well, including many of the businesses, and I enjoy walking, so becoming a Collection Box Volunteer seemed like an ideal way to get started. It’s a flexible role that fits around other commitments and can easily be kept local.
Myton only receives a small proportion of its funding from NHS, so the donations collected through these boxes play an important role in raising the funds needed to provide hospice care. They also help raise awareness of Myton and the services it provides across Coventry and Warwickshire.
There are so many volunteering opportunities at Myton – there’s something for everybody, whatever your age, background or experience. Volunteering has become an important part of my retirement, and I wouldn’t want to be without it.
It’s a simple, flexible volunteering role that plays an important part in supporting the work we do, and it’s ideal for anyone looking for a way to volunteer that can fit easily around other commitments.
It costs over £15 million every year to provide our services free of charge to our patients and their loved ones. As a charity, with less than 20% of our funding coming from the NHS, we must raise more than £12 million this year.
Collection boxes are one of the many ways our local communities support this work, and our Collection Box Volunteers play an important role in making sure those donations are collected and returned.
