We’re celebrating International Volunteer Managers Day!

Today we celebrate International Volunteer Managers Day – a day dedicated to recognising the incredible individuals who support and guide volunteers around the world.

At The Myton Hospices, we are incredibly lucky to have over 1,200 volunteers supporting every aspect of our organisation and we simply couldn’t function without their dedication. From our inpatient units, coffee shop, charity shops, fundraising events and support groups, each volunteer plays a vital role. Behind them are our passionate volunteer managers, who ensure every volunteer feels valued, supported and confident in what they do.

Our Community Fundraising team is supported by a number of fantastic volunteers who help with everything from bucket and tin collections to community events.

Rachael Ryan, Community Fundraising Manager at The Myton Hospices, said:

Our volunteer managers do an incredible job. Volunteers make such a huge difference to Myton and the guidance and encouragement of their volunteer manager is a vital part of this.

They help volunteers grow in confidence, try new things, and sometimes even take the next step into employment. Our volunteer managers create a kind, supportive environment where volunteers can truly make a difference.

Our Compassionate Community programme, a new and developing trio of services that support people within the community, currently consists of 28 volunteers.

Michelle Linnane, Associate Director of Service Development and Improvement, said:

We couldn’t have launched these new services without our amazing volunteers and volunteer managers. The Telephone Support Service and Compassionate Neighbours are all volunteer-led, and our volunteer managers are incredible at organising, training and supporting each volunteer to ensure people in our community can access the help they need.

Our charity shops fund the care of 1 in 4 of our patients and this truly wouldn’t be possible without our amazing volunteers. Our Shop Managers, Assistant Shop Managers, and Relief Shop Managers play a vital role in ensuring each shop has the right number of volunteers to open its doors and welcome customers each day.

Carl Prinzel, Retail Area Manager at The Myton Hospices, said:

Our shops provide the vital funds that enable Myton to care for so many people across Coventry and Warwickshire, and that simply wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers. Our volunteer managers go above and beyond to make sure our retail volunteers feel happy, supported and confident in their roles, and that support makes all the difference.

We would like to say a big thank you to all of our volunteer managers for their dedication, compassion and leadership. You make an incredible difference to Myton and to the people we support.
