Tragically, too many people on the waiting list for a Hospice Bed at Myton will die before they can access one!
Help us protect hospice care and raise £40,000 in just 24 hours so more people in Coventry and Warwickshire can access a Hospice Bed!
Across the UK, hospices are being forced to cut services and staff as costs rise and funding fails to keep pace. Yet the need for hospice care has never been greater.
More people need a Hospice Bed now than ever before and demand for our Inpatient Units has increased by 11% in the last 12 months.
Tragically, too many people on the waiting list for a Hospice Bed at Myton will die before they can access one.
We haven’t yet had to make the devastating decision to close services, and we are doing everything we can to keep it that way but costs are at an all-time high of over £1 million per month and our NHS funding has fallen to just 17% of what we need to operate.
Your support gives Myton the stability to care for patients and their families, now and in the future. Every donation, no matter the size, ensures we can continue providing expert, compassionate palliative and end of life care.
Please donate todayPlease donate todayAt just 37, Milly was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer...
Her only symptom had been agonising pain, but tests revealed the cancer had already spread.
When it became clear that further treatment was unlikely to help, Milly made the brave decision to focus on quality of life – and on making special memories with her daughters, Jasmine and Jada.
One of her final wishes was to get her first tattoo – a tribute to her girls.
It was something she had always dreamed of, but never quite settled on a design… and had been worried about what her mum would say!
But with her daughters in mind, the meaning became clear. With support from our nurse Lauren and a kind-hearted tattoo artist (also called Lauren), Milly’s vision came to life.
The tattoo featured jasmine and rose flowers, the girls’ names and birthdates, and a tiny bee she named ‘Lauren’ – in honour of both women who helped make her wish come true
“I started crying when I first saw it. It wasn’t what I imagined but it was exactly what I wanted.”
Milly also created memory boxes for her daughters with the help of our Activities Coordinator – filled with photos, a part of the tattoo stencil, and messages of love, so Jasmine and Jada would always carry a piece of her with them.
Milly died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.
Did you know...? We are a charity...
We are not the NHS and every year we need to raise £12.7 million of the £15.3 million it costs to support the people of Coventry and Warwickshire – that’s over a million pounds more than last year.
