6-year-old Eleri wanted to do something meaningful for the people in our care, choosing to spend the pocket money she had carefully saved throughout the year to do so.
After speaking with our nursing team about what would help the most, Eleri purchased toiletries, snacks, cans of drink and other thoughtful comforts.
When she arrived to deliver her gifts, she took everyone by surprise. Instead of a small donation, the team were greeted by a car boot full of goodies – including tubs of chocolate, puzzle books, magazines, cosy slipper socks, and even bottles of Whisky and Vodka (very kindly purchased by her mum, Stephanie, of course!).
Eleri said:
I wanted to help people at the hospice, and I wanted to help make people happy especially because it is near Christmas. I wanted to give them things that they needed, and things they might want. I chose the slipper socks because I wanted to make them feel comfy. I would like them to feel looked after, and I don't want them to worry about not having things that they need, like toothbrushes, soap and body wash.
I think Myton is important because they help people feel happy and they help people near the end of their life. They help their families be with them and spend time with them in the hospice or at home. Myton helped to look after my Nanny, so I wanted to help them looking after the people at Myton.
Stephanie commented:
I am so proud of Eleri for what she has done, she worked so hard to save up to be able to get so many lovely donations for Myton. She has shown such determination and has shown her absolutely beautiful heart in her reasoning why she wanted to get everything. From wanting to make sure patients didn't need to worry if they forgot any toiletries, to getting slipper socks to make sure they are comfortable.
She has really demonstrated what an amazing girl she is. The Myton Hospices is a cause that is close to our hearts, and I think what Eleri has done is just phenomenal. I could not be prouder of her. I know she is already planning what she can do next to help, and know she will do absolutely amazing.
Sharon Kelly, Ward Manager at Warwick Myton Hospice, said:
