The much-loved Rugby Grand Trivia Quiz returns on Thursday 5th March, celebrating its 25th quiz, bringing our local community together to test their knowledge and raise vital funds for The Myton Hospices. Taking place once again at The Benn Hall, the quiz is expected to be another well-attended evening in support of Myton.
The quiz was first held in 2002 and has been organised and presented every year by Quizmaster Dave Twynholm, supported by his wife Liz and other members of their family. Over the past 25 years, the event has raised tens of thousands of pounds for Myton, with many local quiz teams returning year after year to take part.
Attendance has remained consistently high, with The Benn Hall regularly filled to capacity. The quiz’s success has been due to strong community support, including long-standing involvement from the Rugby Myton Support Group, whose volunteers assist on the night by collecting and marking answer sheets, running raffles and supporting refreshments.
The event has also benefited from the backing of local businesses, who have sponsored prizes over the years. Support has included early sponsorship from The Rugby Advertiser, as well as continued involvement from a range of local companies. Joto Hobbies in Rugby was a regular sponsor of the Lucky Number Prize.
There’s plenty to play for on the evening, with a £100 prize for the winning team, £60 for second place and £40 for third place. A bar will be available to purchase drinks, alongside a raffle, giving attendees additional chances to support Myton while enjoying the night.
Funds raised through the Rugby Grand Trivia Quiz help support our specialist palliative and end of life care services across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Every year, it costs over £15 million to continue providing our services free of charge, and we have to raise more than £12 million each year to ensure people living with life-limiting illnesses, and their families, can access the care they need and deserve.
Rachael Ryan, Community Fundraising Manager at The Myton Hospices, said:
Community events like the Rugby Grand Trivia Quiz play an important role in sustaining our services. It’s a fun, social evening that brings the community together whilst raising vital funds that help us continue providing our specialist care and support to local families when they need us most.
Dave Twynholm, Quizmaster at The Rugby Grand Trivia Quiz, said:
It has been my great pleasure to compile and present the Rugby Grand Trivia Quiz for so many years. It is an excellent example of local people supporting a local charity over such a long period. I sincerely hope that The Benn Hall is packed once again to celebrate this momentous achievement.
