This Volunteers’ Week, we’re shining a spotlight on just a few of the incredible volunteers who give their time to support The Myton Hospices.
From our shops and fundraising events to our hospices and out in the community, volunteers play a vital role in helping us continue to provide our specialist care free of charge to people living with life-limiting illnesses, and their families, across Coventry and Warwickshire.
After retiring from a career in the rubber and plastics industry, David was looking for a way to give back, stay active, and keep a sense of routine in his life. Having supported The Myton Hospices through local music organisations and performances at our Light Up a Life events, volunteering with Myton felt like the perfect fit.
David now volunteers as an eCommerce lister, helping to sort through donations and prepare items for sale on our online platforms, including eBay.
David said:
I knew when I retired that I didn’t want every day to feel the same. I wanted to keep busy, have some structure to my week, and continue using the skills I’d built throughout my career. The eCommerce role at Myton was ideal because it combines that sales experience with the chance to support such an important local charity.
As part of the eCommerce team, David helps turn donated items into vital funds that supports people and families across Coventry and Warwickshire. He added:
It’s incredibly rewarding to see how the money raised through online sales helps people in our community. Every volunteer plays an important role at Myton, and by giving our time, we help ensure more funds can go directly towards providing care for patients and their loved ones.
For David, volunteering has also provided connection:
Retirement can sometimes mean losing the social side of working life, but volunteering gives that back to you. Everyone at Myton is so welcoming and supportive, and I genuinely look forward to my volunteering days. It’s a really fulfilling experience, and I’d encourage anyone who has the time to find a cause they care about and get involved.
We’d like to say a big thank you to every single one of our volunteers. Your compassion and support make such a difference to the people we care for across Coventry and Warwickshire.
