Help us make a difference to people with life-limiting illnesses…
At The Myton Hospices, we provide specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones, from the point of diagnosis to end of life. We are a much-loved and well supported charity, at the heart of our community. We have three hospices, a range of community services, and 26 charity shops in Coventry and Warwickshire.
About the role
This is an opportunity to support Myton’s patients, funded by Macmillan until May 2026 and working as part of the Coventry Citizens Advice team. As our Money and Benefits Adviser, you’ll provide holistic support to patients and their families who are receiving care and support in our Inpatient Units.
You’ll work in partnership with both Myton and Macmillan to provide specialist advice and support to patients and their families, on areas including benefits, income maximisation, budgeting, end-of-life planning, housing and employment.
You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team, receiving referrals from nursing and medical colleagues in the Inpatient Units, and completing casework, with a target of 5 individuals receiving full casework per month.
In partnership with Macmillan and Myton, you will:
- Provide initial support and complete applications
- Undertake follow-up casework and advocacy on behalf of the individual
- Signpost to other specialist services where required
- Promote the service to staff within Myton
The Money & Benefits Adviser is an integral element of our wider aim to provide high-quality, holistic care and support, promoting dignity, and individual choice.
You’ll be working with a target of 5 individuals per calendar month receiving full casework.
About you
You’ll need:
- Experience in delivering specialist benefits advice and casework to vulnerable clients
- Ability to build rapport with clients who may be distressed at times
- Personal resilience and wellbeing
- Effective oral and written communication, good numeracy and IT skills
- Ability to self-manage including time management, and to work in a team and in partnership
- Understanding of social policy issues and the need for confidentiality in this service
- A non-judgmental approach
An enhanced DBS check including the adults’ barred list will be required if offered the role, because you will be assisting adults with their finances who need this support due to their illness.
You’ll be working on-site across two sites, Coventry and Warwick, so you will need to be able to travel reliably to these locations and preferably be a UK driving licence holder.
