13-year-old Teddy is taking on a literal rollercoaster of a challenge, riding the adrenaline pumping ‘The Swarm’ all day to raise money in memory of his dad, Tom.

Teddy will be at Thorpe Park in April 2026, aiming to ride the rollercoaster around 10 times. He said:

I love rollercoasters. We’ve been visiting theme parks since I was little and have travelled all over the world – Germany has my favourite ride, and we’ve been to Orlando and Japan too.

Teddy’s dad, Tom, was cared for at Warwick Myton Hospice in the summer of 2022 after a cancer diagnosis. Teddy was just 10 at the time. He remembers:

Every time I saw him at the hospice, he was still so happy. It was incredible – it just showed the amazing job Myton did in making his last days as comfortable as possible.

Dad liked rollercoasters too, though not as much as I did – he could sometimes get a bit motion sick! I remember being at Alton Towers once, and he promised to go on all the big rides with me. It felt extra special that he was willing to risk feeling unwell just for my enjoyment!

I originally set my fundraising target at £500 but thanks to the incredible support, that was smashed early on. My new target is £2,000. If I reach it, I’ll feel like I’ve really done something good.

I’m a bit nervous about how my body will handle it – I’ve never ridden a rollercoaster continuously before. Luckily, I’ll have time to recover each time I get back in line. I usually don’t get nauseous, but who knows!

The Myton Hospices - Teddy and his Dad, Tom

Did you know…?

The Myton Hospices is a charity, not the NHS, and we receive only 17% of our funding from the NHS. This year, it will cost £15.3 million to continue providing our services free of charge to our patients and their families, meaning we need to raise £12.7 million.

That’s over £1 million each month to ensure people across Coventry and Warwickshire can access the care and support they need and deserve.

We couldn’t do this without our amazing community. Fundraisers like Teddy are crucial in ensuring we can be here for more people when they need us most, now and in the future.
