Starting with loom bands, Izzy has been making bracelets for over two years, giving them to her family, friends and teachers at school. Enjoying her new hobby, Izzy discovered how to create beaded bracelets and never looked back. Izzy said:
I love making them because it’s a relaxing way to spend my time and I can make bracelets with lots of different colours. I can’t wear them myself as I have eczema and they tend to irritate my skin, but I love giving them to everyone I know!
It’s fun to try and colour-coordinate with outfits and occasions! My teacher went to the Taylor Swift concert and I made her a bracelet for each era! My favourite to make was the Lover bracelet as it was pink, purple and blue – my favourites!
Deciding she could sell the bracelets, Izzy set up a bracelet stall outside her house for neighbours to purchase and thought she could give the money she earnt to charity, including The Myton Hospices.
Izzy raised an amazing £155.02 for Myton! She added:
Myton can use the money more than I can! I feel like it’s selfish to keep the money when they need it so much!
Alongside friends, family, teachers and neighbours, some very important people have also received bracelets from Izzy. The Blue Peter presenters, Rishi Sunak and King Charles all have one of Izzy’s creations! Izzy continued:
I sent a Blue Peter inspired bracelet to the show and they sent back a Blue Peter badge! I noticed Rishi Sunak wears a Kautuka, which is a bracelet worn by Hindus to protect them.
I wanted to send him one of my bracelets for his other wrist! When the King was very poorly, I wanted to make him one too. I got letters back from Rishi and the King thanking me for my thoughtfulness!
Maureen, Izzy’s grandma, commented:
As well as donating to a variety of different charities, she gives them to people she’s grateful for, such as her friends and teachers. We went on holiday to Amsterdam as Izzy is interested in Anne Frank and her story – she gave our flight attendants and the tour guide for Anne Frank’s House a bracelet each!
I’m so proud of Izzy, she’s such a generous, kind and thoughtful little girl. She’s always thinking about what she can do for others.
Charlotte Ingram, Director of Income Generation & Supporter Engagement, said:
We are so grateful to Izzy, our fundraising superstar! Thinking of others and helping local charities is something she should be immensely proud of!
We have recently launched our Urgent Appeal to raise £240,000 to fund the recruitment, training and salary of five Registered Nurses for a year so more people in Coventry and Warwickshire can access a Hospice Bed when they need it.
Having Izzy’s incredible support is so important to ensure we can be there for more people and their families living with a life-limiting illness.
