A group of 7 nursing associate lecturers from Coventry University decided to tackle our Abseil in order to raise money and awareness for The Myton Hospices.
Karen Heywood, Assistant Professor and Course Director at Coventry University, said:
We chose to do the abseil for Myton as both a personal challenge and a way to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone. But most importantly, because we are a team of nurses with professional and personal connections to Myton.
We teach on the Nursing Associate course at the university and often hear from our students about the many people experiencing end-of-life care and the support their families receive. This is our little bit of payback for all the wonderful work that happens at Myton to ensure patients receive truly person-centred care.
The experience was amazing, and it felt so special to come together as colleagues for such a meaningful cause.
The group raised a fantastic £3,270
Natalie Walker, Events and Campaigns Manager at The Myton Hospices, said:
We are incredibly grateful to the amazing nursing associate lecturers who took part in our abseil. It means so much to have a group of nurses supporting us in this way, with their understanding of the difference hospice care makes to patients and their families. The event raised a grand total of £83,562, and we couldn’t have done this without every single person who braved the descent down Coventry Cathedral.
This year, it will cost £15.3 million to continue providing our services free of charge. We are a charity, not the NHS, and only 17% of our funding comes from the NHS meaning we have to raise £12.7 million – that’s more than £1 million each month!
We would like to thank everyone who took part in this year’s Abseil down Coventry Cathedral for your incredible support!
