We have once again been staggered by the generosity of donors and volunteers from Coventry & Warwickshire’s annual Charity Christmas Tree Collection, with the 2024 collection raising a staggering £48,840 for The Myton Hospices and Pass The Smile.
This year’s collection of real Christmas trees in return for a charitable donation took place over the weekend of 12-14 January.
For this record-breaking fifth year, the scale of the organisation has evolved and expanded. 3149 trees were amassed by 200 volunteers in 65 vans and onsite at Russells Garden Centre where the mountain of trees were shredded by local company Rofelo Forestry Limited creating 34.76 tonnes of chipping which filled four lorries.
This year’s plan will be to blend the chippings with other forestry waste by Rofelo and sent to the Thetford Biomass Power Station in Norfolk, where it will be used to generate electricity.
The roll call of supporting organisations has also grown and includes some of the region’s biggest employers, Coventry Building Society & Jaguar Land Rover; Biffa, KBTS, RSS Infrastructure, Panic Transport, Cotswold Trees, Smiths Garden Centre, Amazon, and many more.
The 2023 collection raised £45,750 for the two local charities, total donations across the 5 years of the campaign are now close to £150,000.
Scott Crowther from Pass The Smile, who leads the endeavour, was overjoyed by the achievement.
To have raised so much money in five years is beyond our wildest expectations. We receive so much support from our communities, we are beyond grateful for the effort that people continue to put in to help our charities.
Charlotte Ingram, Director of Income Generation at The Myton Hospices said:
We are overwhelmed by the amount raised this year from the Charity Christmas Tree Collection, and in total over the last 5 years.
On behalf of everyone at Myton I want to say a big thank you to the organisers, volunteers, businesses and supporters who have contributed to making the collections such a success and to everyone who has donated.
The money raised will make a real difference for our patients and their families across Coventry and Warwickshire. We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings!
