As Volunteers Week comes to a close, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every volunteer who makes the work we do at The Myton Hospices possible

It goes without saying that every volunteer who generously devotes their time to Myton makes such a difference to our patients and their families across Coventry and Warwickshire.

One volunteer we’d love to shine a spotlight on is Nicola Jordan.

Over the last few months, we have been lucky enough to welcome Aromatherapist Nicola Jordan to our hospice sites, where she’s been hosting aromatherapy and massage sessions for our wonderful staff.

Several studies have shown that aromatherapy can help ease the difficult symptoms that may come with periods, peri-menopause, menopause and post-menopause, particularly hot flushes, cramps, mood swings, anxiety, disturbed sleep, brain fog and lack of concentration/motivation.

We have been very fortunate to have Nicola visit us on several occasions, where she’s been busy hosting personalised sessions for women’s health - each session includes a consultation, back massage, bespoke made essential oil product and after care advice all for £10 – with £5 going directly back to The Myton Hospices.

Nicola also volunteers on reception in our Warwick Myton Hospice – a wonderful example of how varied our volunteer roles can be, offering support across different parts of the organisation.

Nicola trained as an aromatherapist for a reason very close to home – she had previously been an unpaid carer for both of her parents for over 7 years – through Warwickshire Carers, she was offered a session of aromatherapy and found it was wonderful.

After her mother died in 2006, she decided to qualify as an aromatherapist herself to share the relaxation, and the rest is history.

So far Nicola has managed to raise over £125 and counting for Myton, all whilst improving wellbeing and empowering women, and for that, we think she’s a volunteering hero!

But don’t just take our word for it – here is what our staff have to say about aromatherapy sessions with Nicola:

Nicola has a calm and caring approach to her aromatherapy work.

The session was tailored to my symptoms and was delivered very professionally.

I felt incredible afterwards and it really made me realise the power of aromatherapy oils and scents on our senses.

It was lovely during the course of a working day to have this wellbeing service available.

It is very kind of Nicola to provide her time for free at the same time as raising money for Myton – just amazing!

Thank you

I have been lucky enough to book in twice now for Aromatherapy sessions linked to menopause with Nicola.

I have found the sessions very soothing and Nicola creates a really relaxing environment.

Nicola is very professional and happy to advise or work with your personal preferences, mine being a blend of citrus and sage.

I have found my sleep pattern improves for several days following a session and I feel generally a lot calmer!

The programme has been a flying success and we couldn’t be more grateful for the time Nicola has dedicated to us already. It has taken the latest instalment of our Menopause x Wellbeing programme to the next level!

This Volunteers Week we would like to say a huge thank you to Nicola and all of our wonderful volunteers – our work simply wouldn’t be possible without you!
