BBC Midlands Today highlights the funding challenges hospices, including Mary Ann Evans, are facing…

‘Give the Gift of Myton Care’ HERE!

You may have seen Liz Hancock, CEO of Mary Ann Evans Hospice in Nuneaton, on BBC Midlands Today last night discussing their shortfall in funding, which has led to a recruitment freeze and potential service cuts.

We want to express our support for them – their patients, staff, and volunteers – at this difficult time, as well as for the many other hospices sadly sharing similar stories in the news recently.

We stand alongside all of them in calling for the Government to provide sustainable funding for hospices across the UK, so that everyone who needs specialist palliative and end of life care can access it.

Whilst hospices should not have to depend on the generosity of the public, yesterday’s news once again highlights just how vital this support is. At The Myton Hospices, we receive only 17% of our funding from the NHS and must raise £12.7 million this year to continue providing our services free of charge to thousands of patients and families across Coventry and Warwickshire – that’s over £1 million every month.

As the only provider of Hospice Inpatient Beds in Coventry and Warwickshire, we are proud to support patients and their loved ones from across the region, and we want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to protect our vital services.

Ruth Freeman, CEO of The Myton Hospices said:

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our local community, which means we have not yet faced the heart-breaking decision to close services. However, while we fight to protect our existing services, we also want to reach more people who so desperately need and deserve our care.

We have 36 inpatient beds, but can currently only afford to keep 25 open. Tragically, this means we have a waiting list – and too many patients die before they are able to access a hospice bed.

Access to hospice care should never be a lottery. You can find out more about how we can support you and your loved ones below.

We continue to work with Hospice UK to lobby the Government for sustainable funding. Until then, we must rely on the incredible support of our community.

Thank you for standing by us. The latest news is a stark reminder of how vital your continued support is.
