Claire Lomax’s mum, Pauline, died at Coventry Myton Hospice in August 2018. That December, Claire and her family attended one of our Light up a Life events to remember Pauline.

Each year we host Light up a Life services at our hospices in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick to give families and friends the chance to celebrate the lives of their loved ones in the run-up to Christmas.

Here’s what Claire had to say about the service, and the impact it had on her as her family prepared for their first Christmas without her mum…

On a windy, but thankfully dry, December evening we congregated outside Warwick Myton Hospice. This felt like a community brought together by something special; we were all here to remember a loved one, and we were all linked by something more than our loss. This connection that goes a little deeper - Myton itself. Because it is the last place most of our loved ones were with us. And this means that this place and these people, those that helped us and those that cared for those we have lost, will remain in our heart forever. And we know our numbers will grow over the years and we will welcome them with a comforting silence, a knowing smile or a gentle touch of acknowledgement because we are connected.
