Rebecca Orr, one of our incredible Bank Nursing Assistants, works across our Myton at Home service and Coventry Myton Hospice Inpatient Unit, and also covers at our Warwick Inpatient Unit when needed.

Rebecca initially received a job offer for a Nursing Assistant role at Myton after her dad died. However, Rebecca has always dreamed of becoming a Nurse, so decided to turn this down to pursue her goal. Currently studying for her BSc degree in Adult Nursing, Rebecca works as a Bank Nursing Assistant across Myton’s services.

Rebecca commented:

Myton offers such a wonderful, kind, caring and compassionate environment for their patients and families. Everyone that works here is lovely and I can honestly say I always feel welcomed and valued whenever I’m on shift.

The work they do is just amazing and inspirational and when I qualify, palliative care is definitely an interest for me. To be part of someone’s final months, weeks, days and hours is a privilege and honour.

Not only is Rebecca an integral staff member, but she is also fundraising for Myton, pushing herself out of her comfort zone and conquering our Skydive!

Rebecca added:

I wanted to take on the Skydive to raise money for Myton – I was shocked when I found out Myton only received 20% of their funding from the NHS and how they mainly rely on donations and fundraising.

I know first hand that the work carried out by all staff is second to none and vital for so many people in our community. If I can help raise funds to support their continued work then that’ll bring me so much joy!

Excited for the challenge, Rebecca explained:

I’m really looking forward to the experience as it’s something I’ve always wanted to do but never been brave enough! I’m a bit of a daredevil so hoping the adrenaline and excitement will get me through!

Though I am petrified of heights which will be challenging but thinking of the money I am raising that will help so many and having my husband, children and family waiting for me at the bottom will be all the encouragement I need!

We are so grateful to Rebecca for everything she does for Myton and are so proud of her taking on our Skydive to raise vital funds!

This year, we have to raise £11 million of the £14.3 million we need to continue providing our services free of charge, and we couldn’t do this without people like Rebecca!
