We are delighted that four of our wonderful doctors have passed the European Certificate in Palliative Care!

At The Myton Hospices we are leaders in compassionate end of life care and are supportive of staff wanting to further their own knowledge and experience – we are delighted that four of our wonderful doctors have passed the European Certificate in Palliative Care!

Speciality Doctors Anna-Marie Foley, Linda Hird and Katharine Leach, and Doctor Carrie Hurst at Myton all worked hard in their own time to gain the certificate. They each had to complete three assessments which involved a portfolio based on a patient they have cared for with palliative care needs, a written exam and an oral exam exploring the knowledge and skills they developed while undertaking the course.

Anna-Marie said:

I wanted to make sure that I was well grounded in the whole breadth of palliative medicine and to learn about the different symptoms and how to approach them with what is considered to be the best practice from a medical point of view. I have come from general practice and Myton is more specialist in its approach; I’ve seen a lot more here that I wouldn’t normally see in general practice. All the things which are uncommon in the community are common here. I learnt a lot medically but what I think I gained most from it was through the case studies I had to create based on a patient, not just from a medical point of view but also from a holistic and spiritual point of view.

And Linda added:

You look at medical and holistic care for illnesses where palliative care is needed. I have been with Myton since October 2016 and having the qualification is really a proof of your capability as a doctor; you consider the physical and emotional aspects of care as well as medical.

Staff going the extra mile to provide the best possible care is one reason which we think makes Myton such a special place.
