The Myton Hospices staff and volunteers swapped the hospices for pirate outfits, mermaid tails and oars for this year’s Dragon Boat Festival!

Organised by the Rotary Club of Warwick Avon, the annual event saw 24 teams gather in St Nicholas Park on a chilly Sunday morning in a bid to paddle their way to victory on the River Avon while raising money for The Myton Hospices and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The two Myton teams...

The Coventry Myton Mermaids, a team of nurses from Coventry Myton Hospice, and the Myton Pirates, made up of staff and volunteers from our lottery, marketing, fundraising, catering and complementary therapy teams, took to the water with around 300 other people.

Although neither team made it into the top three at the end of a busy day of rowing, having colleagues competing against each other made for some friendly competition!

Family and friends of the rowers also turned out to cheer the teams on, enjoy the delicious BBQ and entertainment on the banks of the river throughout the day.

The top three...

Congratulations to ‘Builder’s Bums’ from Philip Hughes Construction who took first place after three heats and a final timed race. The ‘Aquaholics’ and ‘Mahlezero’ from Mahle Industries took second and third place respectively.

Best dressed award goes to...

Fancy dress and team strips were in abundance with rowers dressing as everything from breakfast foods to sea creatures, and pirates to Baywatch.  The award for ‘Best Dressed’ went to the ‘Jilted Brides’ who, as their name would suggest, all took part wearing wedding dresses.

A huge thank you to...

We want to say thank you to the Rotary Club of Warwick Avon for organising the event once again, and to the team at Warwick Boat Centre for all their help in making the event a success! We cannot wait to find out what the total figure raised is!
