George Simpson and his friend David are raising money for The Myton Hospices and Leicester-based LOROS Hospice by cycling 1,000 miles to their chosen destination!

While many of us would jump at the chance to enjoy two weeks on the beach in Spain, friends George and David decided they would spend half of their holiday cycling to their destination while raising money for Myton and Leicester-based LOROS Hospice!

George and David…

George, a financial adviser with Furnley House, and David, who works for Oakwrights Ltd, set off from Caen in France on a ten day cycle to Torrevieja in Spain on Thursday 3rd August.

The pair will cover 1,000miles before they make it to their wives, and the beach, in Spain for a well-deserved holiday. We spoke to George before they set off:

“We both like cycling and didn’t want to just spend two weeks on the beach; our wives are flying out to meet us there for the finish. My wife’s mother spent her last days at Myton, and it’s a local charity. Furnley House’s head office is in Leicester and LOROS are their chosen charity.

“1,000 miles is a long way! I’ve cycled five consecutive days before and that was hard. We’re going to do double that. There are lots of hills too; the first day is 100miles cycling as well as 3,500ft of climbing. We’re completely on our own, no support vehicle. We’ll treat every day as it comes.”

The hills and the views…

As well as the distance and carrying all their kit on the bikes, part of the route includes the Pyrenees which will involve some spectacular views, but also lots of hills to cycle up! And as if they both won’t be working hard enough already, the temperature in Spain often exceeds 35 degrees this time of year. We want to thank both George and David for taking on this challenge, and wish them well! If you would like to help support George and David, please click here.
