Our Graphic Designer, Emma, has only been cycling regularly for a year but she was inspired to take on the 100km route in The Myton Hospice’s Cycle Challenge this year!

She tells us why she decided to sign up:

How long have you been into road cycling?

I started riding when I got my first road bike in June last year, so I’ve been riding for just over a year. I didn't like the idea of cycling on my own out on the road so I persuaded my dad to join me and he got his first road bike in October. Annoyingly he is better than me!

Is this your first big ride?

No, only recently (21st July) I took part in the Wiggle Tempest Sportive. My dad and I tackled the 100km which is the furthest distance I've completed yet. It was hard work, not helped by the heat!

Why did you decide to sign up to Myton’s Cycle Challenge?

A friend had completed the event before and once I began working at Myton and on the promotional materials for the Cycle Challenge it was definitely a must. As I ride weekly to keep fit I didn't see why not – I love a challenge!

How are you feeling about the ride?

I’m fairly relaxed at the moment as I've not long completed the same distance, but it still will be a challenge to complete over 5 hours of cycling again.

How is your fundraising going?

So far I've raised £200 and hope to raise a lot more as it’s for a great cause!

Did you have any experience of Myton before you joined the Marketing and Communications team?

I knew about Myton before I started working here; at school we did some fundraising and I know of people who have lost close relatives here. But closest to home, my sister’s boyfriend lost his mum at Myton not long ago.

If you’re feeling inspired like Emma, sign up for our Cycle Challenge! Registration closes on Wednesday 1st August so don’t delay and sign up today!
