The Myton Hospices has had a shop in the village of Wellesbourne for 25 years so we threw a mini celebration to commemorate the special occasion.
Originally opening at Warwick House on Warwick Road in 1999, the shop relocated to the current location on School Street in February 2016.
Celebrating with the volunteers who generously spend their time sorting donations, stocking the shop floor and decorating the windows, Shop Manager, Sue Baylis, brought in balloons and cake, kindly donated by The Cakery in Leamington, for the team and local community to enjoy.
Three of the amazing volunteers were there to celebrate. Anne, Lyn and Mags have spent 10, 15 and 25 years, respectively, volunteering at the Wellesbourne shop.
They commented:
Volunteering at the shop gets us meeting people within our village. We have our regulars who come in daily or weekly looking for a bargain, but also to have a chat. It’s a great social service to the community. We’ve all been volunteering for so long that we’ve seen people grow up. They used to come in with their parents, now they’re coming in with their own children!
Nothing else can compare to the fun and laughter we have together. We don’t all get to work with each other as we volunteer on different days, but we make an effort to have afternoon teas all together. We’re a little family!
We also do a lot of fundraising ourselves through the shop. The biggest one I can remember was the Fashion Show we hosted at the village hall in 2019! Volunteers bravely strutted their stuff on the catwalk. We raised £500 in additional income for the shop, through selling the clothes we modelled and a raffle. It was a great event!
Anthony Dwyer, Retail Area Manager at The Myton Hospices, said:
Celebrating 25 years in Wellesbourne is a great achievement and is a testament to the community spirit in the village. Over the last 25 years, I am thrilled to announce the shop has raised over £2 million – an absolutely fabulous amount!
We couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who has shown support within this time, from Shop Managers and volunteers past and present, to people who donate goods for us to sell and our customers. Here’s to the next 25!
On behalf of everyone at Myton, we are so grateful for the support shown to our Wellesbourne shop over the last 25 years. Our shops play a crucial role in supporting Myton, funding the care of 1 in 4 of our patients.
By shopping at one of our 25 shops, you are helping us to support more people and their families in Coventry and Warwickshire, making a difference to their lives whilst also promoting a more sustainable and responsible approach to fashion.
Your support enables us to continue providing vital care, ensuring we can be there for more people, now and in the future.
