The Myton Hospices celebrates another apprentice moving onwards and upwards!

Liam Tarver has spent the last year working in Myton’s Finance Department and is moving on to be a Junior Commercial Analyst with National Grid. Liam’s progression to a multi-national business straight from his apprenticeship at Myton is evidence of how valuable apprenticeships are in kick-starting careers!

He explains:

I thought it would be great to get a job in a big company as there is a lot of room for progression. I think it’s going to be a big step up and challenge moving to a much bigger business like National Grid. I will also be moving away from home to Derby, meaning it’s going to be completely different to anything I have done before. It is an exciting opportunity and one I feel ready for.

I have enjoyed my time at Myton and it has been a great way to bridge the gap between school life and work life as I have learnt a lot specifically from studying for the apprenticeship but also from working in an office which I would not have been able to learn in a classroom. I think my year at Myton is what gave me the advantage over the other candidates; many of them had similar qualifications to me but were coming straight from school whereas I had a year in a working environment.

We are all incredibly proud of Liam, who has been a great addition to our Finance team and wish him every success for the future!

Apprenticeships are such a great starting point for careers if you want to gain qualifications whilst learning skills and getting experience in the workplace.

At Myton we have a few apprentices working and learning on the job as well as completing training outside of the workplace.
