Make the most of the clocks going back by using your extra hour to support your local hospice

This weekend, as the clocks go back and we gain an extra hour, you have the perfect opportunity to make a real difference in your community. Neighbourly’s ‘The Extra Hour’ campaign encourages using that bonus time to help others – and there’s no better place to start than your local hospice. We know that life is busy and many people don’t have a lot of time to spare so this is a great way to get involved.

We are looking for Community Relationship volunteers to raise awareness, support fundraising and connect with people across Coventry and Warwickshire. Whether it’s attending events like coffee mornings, quiz nights, and fayres, giving talks, running information stands, or supporting community outreach, there’s a role to suit every interest and schedule.

And the best part? You can start with just one extra hour – and if you enjoy it, that hour can easily grow into a regular commitment, whether it’s an hour a week or an hour a month, continuing to make a meaningful difference.

Even if you can only spare a little time, there’s still room for micro-volunteering. You could use your extra hour to declutter your wardrobe and donate items to your nearest Myton shop, or share our social media posts to help spread the word about the vital work we do. Every small action can make a big difference.

Kerrie Grayman-Smith, Head of Volunteering at The Myton Hospices, said:

Volunteering at Myton is about making a tangible difference in your community. Even an hour of your time can raise awareness, support our fundraising efforts, or help someone access the care they need and deserve. It’s a chance to use your skills, meet new people and contribute in a way that truly matters – whether it’s an hour a week or an hour a month.

At Myton, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. They support us in a wide range of ways, from patient care to fundraising, and community outreach to helping in our shops, enabling us to provide our vital services free of charge to our patients and their families.

Every hour they give – whether it’s a regular weekly commitment, in some cases much more, or something less frequent – the time they give helps us ensure that people across Coventry and Warwickshire can access the care and support they need. Their dedication, passion and generosity make an immeasurable difference every single day, and our work simply wouldn’t be possible without them.

This weekend, don’t just turn back the clock – turn your extra hour into something extraordinary and make a real difference in your local community.
