Our very own People, Resourcing and Reward Officer, Bethan Wiggett, is taking on our Snowdon Trek to raise vital funds for The Myton Hospices!

Bethan Wiggett, our amazing People, Resourcing and Reward Officer, is taking on our Snowdon Trek on Saturday 28th June to raise vital funds for The Myton Hospices.

Bethan said:

I originally hoped to do the skydive, but couldn’t for medical reasons and I was gutted (yes really!). I promised our Events team that I would find another big challenge.

I signed up for the Wyddfa hike on a whim, then realised it was on my mum’s birthday… oops! My apologetic text to her led her to think about joining me, and now she’s made it a birthday fundraiser.

An active person, Bethan feels both ready and slightly apprehensive:

I’m nervous and excited at the same time. I’m not looking forward to the sore legs the following day! I do a bit of running but climbing a mountain is something else. I think the relentlessness of walking uphill for hours, in whatever the weather throws at us, will be tough. I’ve got a few training walks planned to build up my stamina!

“We’ll both enjoy spending time in the countryside and essentially getting a girls’ weekend away together in Eryri. Mum’s scared of falling though, so she’ll have to be really brave on any scrambly sections – and I’ll have to pretend to be brave to reassure her!

Bethan and her mum have already raised over £500 between them, but they’re hoping to raise much more!

We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported us so far – it really means the world!

Bethan’s connection to fundraising for hospices is deeply personal, after her uncle was cared for by his local hospice in Manchester. Bethan added:

I was inspired to fundraise for (and work at) Myton after my uncle’s experience of being cared for by St Ann’s Hospice in Manchester. They enabled him to get out of hospital and back into his home so that he could be surrounded by his family, which meant the world.

I was amazed to learn that hospices are charities and almost entirely reliant on donations – the amount of money that’s needed is mind-blowing. I feel we all have to do what we can to support hospices and not take them for granted.

And working at Myton, I get to meet all these incredible people who work and volunteer here and just want to do the best that they possibly can for patients, so I’m doing it for my colleagues too.

Did you know…? We are a charity, we are not the NHS, and we have to raise £12.7 million of the £15.3 million it costs this year to continue providing our services free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Just 17% of our funding comes from the NHS.
