Seven-year-old Eleri first got involved with The Myton Hospices last Christmas when she used her saved-up pocket money to donate gifts for our patients. Now, she’s taking on a new challenge… virtually walking and cycling the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money to support Myton’s work.
Eleri is covering a total of 874 miles in her spare time. Eleri said:
I really enjoy walking and riding my bike, and I’m doing it to help other people.
Starting her challenge earlier this year, Eleri aims to finish by the end of the year. So far, she has completed 184 miles – a distance just shy of the distance between John O’Groats and Ben Nevis. Eleri added:
My favourite place to ride my bike is along the canal. I like looking at nature and seeing the ducks!
Eleri has already smashed her initial fundraising target of £100 and is now aiming to raise £300, with 690 miles still to go.
Eleri’s Nanny, Sheila, was cared for at Warwick Myton Hospice before she was born, inspiring her to give back. Eleri’s mum, Steph, said:
It’s lovely knowing that Eleri is helping people in a similar situation to our experience with Nanny Sheila. We know it’s such a difficult time, and any support can make a real difference. If Eleri’s fundraising means that more people can have everything they need to experience a dignified and peaceful death, then that’s perfect.
Sophie Wardle, Events Fundraiser at The Myton Hospices, said:
We are incredibly grateful to Eleri for all her dedication and commitment to Myton. We rely on support from our community to ensure people living with a life-limiting illness can access the care they need and deserve. Eleri’s fundraising is an amazing example of that. From everyone here at Myton – thank you Eleri!
