Kim was first introduced to Myton in August 2019 when her dear friend Julie spent two and a half weeks at our Coventry Myton Hospice. Julie had been battling with her cancer diagnosis for 16 years prior to her admission to our Inpatient Unit, but sadly died during her stay at Myton, aged just 53 years old.
Kim commented:
That was my first experience of Myton and their services. Whilst we all struggled with Julie’s condition and then her death, everyone at Myton supported her and us tremendously well. They did such a good job caring for her and everyone around her. We’ll always be so grateful for that.
After Julie died, Kim and her friends gathered together to host a fundraiser in aid of Myton. Hiring their local church hall, they had stalls, raffles, tombolas and a cake stand, with brands such as Next and Subway donating food and hampers.
The day was a big success, raising an amazing £5,000 for Myton!
Kim added:
Julie was very well loved which showed in the fantastic support we had on the day. My fundraising and support for Myton just carried on from there.
Kim has a wedding and party hire company, called ‘Date for Your Diary’, and our Coventry Fundraising and Front of House Lead, Claire McDowell, reached out to see if Myton could use any of her props and party items for a wedding that was taking place at our Coventry Myton Hospice.
Kim jumped at the chance to show her support and donated the items for a day for us to use during this very special occasion. Kim has given her support at special occasions at Coventry ever since.
Kim said:
I bring all sorts of things for the weddings, vow renewals and other celebrations that take place at Coventry Myton Hospice, from trees, centre pieces, light up letters – absolutely anything to make the room extra special.
I understand the situation, I’ve been there with Julie, and know just how horrendous and heart-breaking it can be. If I can help bring joy and magical memories to some of the patients and their loved ones and make their last few months, weeks or days of life memorable, then I’m honoured to do so.
Everyone at Myton, from the nurses, doctors and volunteers, are incredible people working tirelessly to provide comfort during these hard times. If I can give something to help, why wouldn’t I.
Kim also volunteered at our Coventry Summer Fayre this year on the raffle table, the Fayre which raised an amazing £5,000.
