Supporting palliative and end of life care across Coventry and Warwickshire

For over a decade, the CASTLE group (Care And Support Towards Life’s End) has brought together passionate professionals dedicated to improving palliative and end of life care across Coventry and Warwickshire. Through the CASTLE website, the group shares helpful information and resources about palliative and end of life care for local health and social care staff.

Each year, the CASTLE Education Steering Group organises at least one education event to bring together colleagues from across the region.

This year, two education days have been developed in partnership with teams from South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust, The Myton Hospices, The Shakespeare Hospice, University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, Warwickshire Learning and Development Partnership, Warwickshire County Council and the Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board.

The first event took place on Thursday 27th March 2025 at Rugby College, who generously provided the venue. Refreshments were kindly sponsored by UHCW NHS Trust. The event welcomed 100 delegates from a range of care settings and focused on Palliative Care for Non-Malignant Conditions.

Specialist speakers gave valuable insights into caring for people with heart failure, kidney failure, liver failure, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and motor neurone disease. Delegates also had the chance to visit a vibrant marketplace of local organisations and hospices, offering a wealth of information on the services and support available across our area.

A second CASTLE Education Day covering the same topics is planned for autumn 2025 in South Warwickshire.
