Within our Counselling service, we provide one-on-one therapy for children and young people across Coventry and Warwickshire who have experienced death or a terminal illness of a friend or family member.
We also recognise that bereaved children have different needs. Whilst some may benefit from our 1:1 offering, others may find a group setting more beneficial, meeting other children in a relaxed and fun environment who have had a similar experience.
These workshops run twice a year in spring and autumn, with a parent support group running alongside these workshops. A Family Festive Fun Event will also run each year in December.
The first of these weekend workshops since Covid took place in April 2023, featuring some great activities, working on adopting a sense of belonging and normality, continuing a bond with the special person they lost, and communication with their parent or carer.
Trustees Angie Archer and Jane Ibbett said:
The Carl Lewis Foundation is thrilled to be able to support such valuable work with bereaved children and young people.
Debbie Frost, Counselling, Bereavement & Family Support Lead, said:
We are so grateful for the generosity of The Carl Lewis Foundation.
The workshops are always well attended, so to know that we can continue with them is wonderful.
To witness the children having this opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings safely, whilst making friends with others is a real privilege.
The parents and carers have also said that they really appreciate having the time and space to meet others who share similar experiences.
Charlotte Ingram, Director of Income Generation, said:
We are so very grateful for the on-going support of everyone involved at The Carl Lewis Foundation and for enabling us to be able to operate our vital services.
We genuinely could not do what we do without organisations like this. Thank you so much on behalf of everyone at Myton.
These workshops are incredibly important to allow children the time, space and freedom to grieve in a normal and safe space.
We couldn’t offer these services without incredible supporters, like The Carl Lewis Foundation!
