The Myton Hospices’ brand new Palliative and End of Life Care Hub (Rugby Myton Hub) has been handed a huge boost in the form of a £5,000 grant from the B&Q Foundation

Launching in early 2022 the Rugby Myton Hub will offer a programme of support for palliative and end of life care patients, and their families, in Rugby and the surrounding area. The aim of the Hub will be to provide the information, care and support that people need to live well for longer with their illness.

Launched in June 2020, the B&Q Foundation has donated over £1.3 million to 25 projects and helped over 200,000 people through grants, volunteering time and home improvement resources. And the Rugby Myton Hub is one of those projects to benefit from the Foundation’s generosity and support.

People with a terminal illness, aged 18 and over in Rugby, will be able to access a wide range of free support, including all of Myton’s outpatient services and many more offered in collaboration with local healthcare and voluntary partners. Support will also be available for patient’s loved ones, including children and young people.

The programme of activities will include support groups, education and training, specialist clinics e.g. heart failure and dedicated programmes such as Take a Breath. There will also be close links with the Oncology team at St Cross to support people with a terminal cancer diagnosis, and their loved ones. A full listing of the services on offer will be available in early 2022.

Our plans have been handed a massive boost following the awarding of the £5,000 grant from the B&Q Foundation, which will fund non-staff costs of the project to help us provide a warm and welcoming environment for those in the community who need to access our services.

Myton CEO Ruth Freeman welcomed the ‘wonderful’ grant:

We are delighted and grateful to have received this wonderful grant from the B&Q Foundation, which will have such a big impact on progressing our Palliative and End of Life Care Hub in Rugby, helping us care for more people in the local community,” she said.

We are hugely excited about the new Rugby Myton Hub and about our wider plans to take our care Beyond the Hospice Walls – all of which are made possible by our amazing supporters, such as the B&Q Foundation.
