The Warwick Ambulance Association has awarded an extraordinary £460,000 to seven local charities, with The Myton Hospices receiving an incredible £200,000, which could fund our Warwick Inpatient Unit for 40 days. This generous gift will help ensure people can access the expert care and support they need and deserve, when they need it most.
Founded over 100 years ago, the Warwick Ambulance Association began by transporting people from Leamington train station to the Pump Rooms for Spa treatments. During the Second World War, the Association supported local divisions of the St John Ambulance Association, providing vital funding for supplies, equipment, and storage. In 2013, they took on St John Ambulance’s role in the area, continuing to serve the community with care and dedication.
Like many organisations, the Association faced falling volunteer numbers and rising costs following the Covid pandemic, and made the difficult decision to close at the end of 2024. Throughout 2025, the group worked to realise its remaining assets, with the aim of distributing them to charities whose work aligns with their mission of care and welfare within the community.
Dozens of charities were nominated. After careful consideration and due diligence, the Association selected seven beneficiaries, presenting them with cheques at a special awards evening in November. Two further charities will receive the group’s final funds as they complete the closure process.
Pat Goode, Treasurer of The Warwick Ambulance Association, said:
The first decision made was that we’d give the big cheque to Myton. We’ve all had dealings with Myton. Everyone has friends, relatives, colleagues or social group members who have received care and support from Myton. Everyone at the Warwick Ambulance Association is incredibly grateful to have such a great service available to us if we need it.
Ruth Freeman, CEO at The Myton Hospices, said:
We are incredibly grateful for the extraordinary generosity of the Warwick Ambulance Association. Their £200,000 donation will have a profound impact on our ability to continue delivering the specialist care and support that local people with life-limiting illnesses depend on. At a time of significant financial pressure, this donation will make a tangible difference to countless families. Thank you! We do not take this support for granted.
This year, it will cost £15.3 million to continue providing our services free of charge. We are a charity, we are not the NHS, and we receive just 17% of our funding from the NHS. This means we must raise £12.7 million – more than £1 million every month – and we rely on the kindness and support of our community to reach this target.
We couldn’t be more grateful to the Warwick Ambulance Association for their remarkable generosity, which will help ensure more people can access the care they need, now and in the future.
