Over 1,000 people volunteer for Myton, from helping in our charity shops to driving patients to and from our three Day Hospices. All this week we are celebrating these incredible people – we wouldn’t be able to carry on providing our services free of charge to people in Coventry and Warwickshire without them!
We are incredibly grateful to the people who volunteer regularly and we hold two ‘thank you’ events each year to show our appreciation. One is our volunteers BBQ’s and the other is our annual Long Service Awards.
As we celebrated our 35th anniversary last year, so did many volunteers, including the Rugby 250+ Club and Myton’s Harbury Support Group.
The Rugby 250+ Club celebrated its 35th year supporting Myton, with several members also marking this milestone too. The group, who run a monthly lottery locally to raise money for Myton, have raised over £175,000 over the last 35 years.
Members Richard and Janet Avery, and Geoff Kennedy all celebrated 35 years of fundraising for Myton. Geoff was involved with the ‘steering committee’ which was the driving force behind the creation of the Rugby 250 Club. This later became the Rugby 250+ Club as the lottery members grew in number.
Members of Myton’s Harbury Support Group were honoured for raising around £123,000 over the last 35 years; some members of the support group have been fundraising for Myton since it first opened over 35 years ago, including member and lottery collector Philippa Collett!
Around 120 more of our wonderful volunteers celebrated milestone years with Myton, from five years to 35 years of service and we gathered them together at our three hospices to thank them for their dedication.
Vera Oughton, who has volunteered at Myton’s Warwick Street shop in Leamington Spa since it first opened, was thanked for her 25 years of voluntary service; Sandra Speek and Dorsey Taylor, who are both volunteer receptionists, celebrated 20 years of volunteering with Myton; and Jean Ball, Valerie Keen and Evelyne Randall have all been volunteers at Myton charity shops for more than 20 years.
Linda Daniels, Irene Fulford and Sheila Walker have all been Myton volunteers for over 15 years. Irene and Sheila started volunteering when the Myton Distribution Centre on the Herald Business Park in Coventry first opened.
Dian Edwards was also celebrating her 15th year of volunteering for Myton - she volunteers at the Myton shop on Trinity Street in Coventry.
Joan Stretton whose volunteer roles include helping the Fundraising team, Myton at Home sitting service and supporting in the Day Hospice was thanked for her 15 years of service, and Mick Fennell, who is a fundraising volunteer, marked 10 years with Myton.
Thank you to all of our fantastic volunteers for your continued support!
