Warwick University Radio Station, RAW, hosted a week-long fundraiser for The Myton Hospices, raising over £1,500!

RAW, Warwick University’s student-run radio station, held a week of fundraising, from Monday 11th November, to support The Myton Hospices. Through both on-air broadcasts and campus appearances, students participated in overnight shows, taking on listener-driven challenges and dares in exchange for donations.

Mackenzie, Co-Station Manager, said:

From karaoke to leg waxing, there were many opportunities that pushed us to do silly things. Extending to campus, we continued our dares and challenges in this very public setting.

Hospice care is a key passion across the radio station. Mackenzie continued:

Access to hospice care is something our members feel close to as it allows people towards the end of life to live as comfortably as possible. We love engaging with local charities as a community radio station and we hope we can bring a great benefit to Myton, raising awareness and donations within a massive student body. Our job as a radio station is to entertain, and we hope our fundraising programming will make for good listening for a great cause.

The station raised a total of £1,526, surpassing their initial target of £1,251 through their challenges!

Mackenzie added:

Our overnight broadcasts were undoubtedly our biggest challenge, staying awake through the onslaught of dares and donations was difficult, but we always had a lot of fun! To have so many hard workers invested in the same goal is amazing and there was always an inspiring sense of camaraderie throughout the week.

Everyone at The Myton Hospices would like to say a big thank you to Mackenzie and the entire RAW team for all their support.

We recently launched our Urgent Appeal to raise £240,000 to fund the recruitment, training and salary of five Registered Nurses for a year, to ensure more people can access a Hospice Bed when they need it.

People like Mackenzie, the team at RAW and everyone who donated play a crucial role in helping us support more people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Coventry and Warwickshire. Thank you!
