Our incredible team of almost 1,000 volunteers support Myton through a variety of roles across all three sites and in the community. Without their support, we would not be able to continue running our services across Coventry and Warwickshire.
This Volunteers’ Week, a few of our volunteers have kindly offered to share their reasons for volunteering as well as explain what they enjoy most about their role:
Alan Wright- Pastoral Care Volunteer
“I joined Myton as a volunteer after seeing drivers were needed and this seemed like an attractive way of doing something useful in retirement. After nearly 11 years, I am now a member of the pastoral care team – as well as a driver – and the hospice has become a major part of my life. I feel very privileged and hugely rewarded.”
Dee Yorke- Complementary Therapy Volunteer
“I really look forward to spending one day a week at Myton and feel very much part of a team. The patients really benefit from complementary therapy; it can help to reduce certain symptoms and improves emotional well-being.”
Matthew Randall- Retail Volunteer
“I have now been volunteering in my spare time for over 5 years. I really enjoy working at the shop and the staff and my fellow volunteers are a pleasure to work with. Myton do an amazing job in the community and all this makes me want to continue working to help Myton continue its great support for those who need it.”
Mo Haynes- In patient Unit Volunteer
“As you’d expect when volunteering on IPU, I meet a lot of patients and their families and it makes you realise how important volunteering is. Even just holding someone’s hand can make the biggest difference.
Alan, Dee, Matthew and Mo are just 4 of the remarkable volunteers who provide invaluable support for patients, families, friends, staff and other volunteers. We feel honoured to have a team of such wonderful, generous people who are willing to give up their time to ensure that we are able to continue providing specialist care and support for our patients and their loved ones.”
