We spoke to Myton Rugby Day Unit patient Christine

We are honoured to be able to share with you Christine’s experience of our Day Unit services! She has a long term, life limiting illness and attended Rugby Day Unit where she received support for her specific needs.

Christine and her husband have supported The Myton Hospices in the past and were invited to attend an open afternoon at Rugby Myton Hospice to celebrate the hospices 15th birthday. After speaking to nurses about her illness and the kind of care and support available she was encouraged to self-refer.

Christine told us how pleased she was to be able to come to Rugby Myton Hospice, having felt she was restricted by her illness with where she could go and what she could do. As well as having nurses on hand to help, Christine was able to talk to Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists about her needs and our Spiritual and Pastoral Care Team; at Myton we know that having the right people to talk to is just as important and the medical care we provide. Coming to the Rugby Day Unit also allowed her husband a few hours of respite a week knowing that she was in safe hands.

We are so pleased that the amazing team at Rugby Myton Hospice were able to support Christine, and had such an impact that she wanted more people to know about the services we provide as well as the welcoming atmosphere!

If you, a friend, or family member could benefit from the support available at Rugby Day Unit, call 01788 550085 and our nurses will discuss your individual needs and whether you meet the referral criteria. We also run monthly Carer Support Sessions at the hospice which are free to attend – the person you care for doesn’t have to be a Myton patient. Call 01788 550085 to find out more.
