As unique and unusual challenges go this one has got to be up there. We asked Craig to tell us about his plans and motivation:
"I used to work at the Myton Warehouse and during this time I lost my mother, she was cared for by Myton and I feel it is time for me to give something back. I run the Renault Zoe Owners Club (RZOC) and the 2000-mile round trip from the UK to Austria will be undertaken solely in my 100% electric car. We are hoping to raise £3000 for Myton and have set up a Just Giving page where people can donate and pledge their support https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/RZOC
"The future of electric cars is growing and the club has already made a big impact in Europe, which is where I came up with the idea of this road trip in aid of Myton. I am also working with our Club Dealer Renault Leicester to support us on our journey.
On Thursday 25th May, me and another driver from the RZOC will leave the UK, travelling through France and Germany to reach Austria by late Friday 26th May. The big difference doing this in an electric car is that we have to charge at any point from 60-100 miles as most electric cars don’t have as long range as petrol or diesel cars. Luckily, Europe has a lot of electric charge points but even this is a challenge on its own as charging can take anything from 30 minutes to three hours!
We will be posting live video feeds and tweeting updates en route @RenaultZoeClub. We will be meeting with the Austrian Zoe Owners Club on the Saturday where they are holding their large yearly meet; they will be waiting for us with open arms after our long journey for Myton. On Sunday we will be heading back to the UK which will hopefully see us successfully complete our 2000 mile journey for Myton, all in an electric car!”
