Our Social Media Apprentice, Luc Ord, shares his experience and motivation.

When I saw that The Myton Hospices was advertising a Social Media apprenticeship, it sounded like the perfect role to apply for so I did! I really wanted to go into digital marketing as I had completed a few courses relevant to this at sixth form and really have a passion for it. Once Myton offered me the job, I was over the moon. I could not wait to start and when I did it was amazing! I had heard that Myton was such a lovely place to work and it is – everyone is so caring and really nice. During my first couple of days people were always asking how I was doing and if I needed any help. The support that you get is just incredible and I am so thankful to Myton for giving me the opportunity.

Starting work…

Of course, starting work at a big organisation like Myton, I was very nervous but once I had started and found my feet, it all came together and having been in the job for about five months now, I can say that I have settled in very well and things could not be better. For any other students looking to go into an apprenticeship, it is worth it! It will take you some time to get used to things but what you have to do is get stuck in and keep focused, and don’t be afraid of putting ideas out there! It is a learning curve and you will learn from your mistakes. What I found difficult at first was getting used to the working life; 9.00am – 5.00pm. I was at sixth form but I would finish at 3.30pm at the latest! After a couple of weeks though, you get used to it and what I really love is that Friday feeling you get!

Inspiration…

I have taken some inspiration from one of my favourite football players, Harry Kane – look where he started and where he is now. He has trained tirelessly to become one of the world’s best footballers and he always keeps his head down and wants to keep improving. I know I’m not a football player but within my role, I keep my head down and focus on improving my work all the time!

What Luc likes…

I really enjoy being part of such an amazing and enthusiastic team and just being surrounded by such lovely individuals. I also really enjoy my job role and the fact that I am learning something new all the time really excites me. Creating web pages and setting up blogs is something that I really enjoy, I hope to get better and better at this and with an excellent line manager teaching me, I am sure I will! I also enjoy photography and there are a lot of opportunities to incorporate this within my role. You know what they say, practise makes perfect and that is what you have to do, keep practising!

Another aspect of my work I very much like is promoting our events through our social media channels. There is a lot of work that needs to be done for this but it is exciting and very enjoyable. To be able to go to the events and take photos is wonderful! I have in fact taken part in the Coventry Half Marathon for Myton and I can truly say it was an amazing experience and I would definitely like to do it again next year!

I can see a bright future for me here and I feel Myton has really kick started my career in digital marketing!
