Young couple celebrate their love through a beautiful symbolic act at our Coventry Myton Hospice

22-year-old Callum, a devoted Coventry City Football Club fan, was recently admitted to our Coventry Myton Hospice for end of life care, and with his fiancée Grace, the couple wanted to create a lasting and meaningful memory together.

They chose a handfasting ceremony, a symbolic act where the hands of a couple are bound together with ribbon or cord, representing their commitment to one another.

Understanding the importance of this very special moment for the young couple, our dedicated team went above and beyond to organise a beautiful ceremony in our sanctuary.

Callum and Grace were surrounded by family and friends as they took part in the handfasting ritual. Ribbons were tied around their hands, beautifully symbolising their union.

Luke, Callum’s brother, said:

We’d like to say thank you to everyone at Myton for everything they did for Callum. We will be forever grateful and we all plan to fundraise to ensure more people can have the same excellent care Callum had.

The ceremony became even more poignant, as Callum sadly died the follow day, aged just 22.

We cannot thank our incredible team enough for arranging this heartfelt and special moment for Callum, Grace, their family and friends, showing the role hospices play in bringing comfort and joy during the most difficult times.

Did you know…? We are not the NHS, we are a charity and just 20% of our funding comes from the NHS.

This year alone, we need to raise £11 million of the £14.3 million it costs to continue providing our services free of charge to patients and their loved ones.

Like all hospices, we are deeply concerned about the current funding crisis for hospices.

With costs at an all-time high, we need your support now more than ever to continue providing our care free of charge to patients and their loved ones.
