This month, we were delighted to welcome Warwick District Council to Warwick Myton Hospice for a special occasion – recognising an exceptional volunteer who has dedicated three decades to supporting her community.
At 92, Margaret Kite was presented with the Freedom of the District Award by Council Chairman Naveen Tangri, surrounded by her Myton family and other charities she’s worked with.
Margaret has been a familiar face in towns across Warwickshire for more than 30 years. In 2024 alone, she completed 96 bucket collections for The Myton Hospices between April and December, raising an impressive £21,208.84.
Her regular presence outside supermarkets and local businesses has become well-known – many people stop not just to donate, but to catch up with her. The strong relationships she has built are a major factor in her success and reflect the important role of volunteers in connecting Myton with the wider community.
Alongside her fundraising for Myton, Margaret has also volunteered for several other charities over the years, including Guide Dogs for the Blind, the RNLI, the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Young Lives vs Cancer. Through her combined efforts, she has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to support vital causes across the region.
At the celebration, everyone could see just how much time, energy and dedication Margaret gives to the community. Her fundraising helps Myton continue providing specialist care and support for people living with life-limiting illnesses, and it’s clear that her efforts are valued not just by us, but by the local communities she’s visited over the years.
Margaret said:
I was absolutely overwhelmed to receive this award and thoroughly enjoyed the celebration we had with some of my fellow Myton volunteers and my friends from some of the charities I work with.
Louise Careless, Community Fundraiser at The Myton Hospices, said:
Margaret is an incredible part of the Myton family. Her dedication, kindness and energy have made such a difference to our work and to so many people across the community.
We’re so grateful for everything she’s done, not just raising funds, but bringing people together and showing the true spirit of volunteering.
We are proud to see Margaret’s dedication recognised by Warwick District Council. The Freedom of the District Award is a fitting acknowledgment of the positive difference she has made.
Congratulations to Margaret, and thank you for everything you do for Myton and for our local community.
