At The Myton Hospices, we know that facing a life-limiting illness can impact far more than physical health – it can affect confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing for people affected, as well as those who love and care for them.
Our Compassionate Community programme is here to help people feel less alone by offering opportunities to connect with others, build supportive relationships, and discover practical and emotional support that can make a real difference every day.
We are offering this in three ways:
Telephone Support Volunteers...
Our telephone support service offers scheduled, social calls for people living with a life-limiting illness and their carers.
Our trained volunteers provide friendly, meaningful conversation along with a safe and consistent space to talk about interests, hobbies and day-to-day-life. This regular connection can offer emotional reassurance, help people feel heard, and ease feelings of loneliness and isolation. It can also give carers a valuable moment of respite and support.

Compassionate Neighbours...
Compassionate Neighbours creates strong, supportive relationships within local communities for people who may be feeling lonely or socially isolated due to a life-limiting illness or bereavement.
Support is personalised and flexible – including home visits, group meet-ups or attending community hubs. This companionship offers caring support that’s shaped around what matters most to the individual.

Community Connectors...
Delivered in partnership with University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, the Community Connectors initiative helps people across our communities feel more confident to have compassionate conversations about life-limiting illness, death, and bereavement.
The programme teaches active listening, gentle communication skills, and how to signpost to local services – reducing stigma and helping ensure everyone can access the support they need and deserve.
Our Myton charity shop managers have been trained, helping them practice active listening and offer sensitive guidance when someone wants to talk.
How to refer...
